🌿Cedar & Sage 🌿

A Sacred Space for Indigenous Stories and Wisdom

Aaniin (hello or "I see your light")

Cedar & Sage is a heartfelt blog dedicated to amplifying indigenous voices and preserving the rich tapestry of indigenous cultures and traditions. This sacred space invites readers to explore a diverse array of content, from insightful articles and personal narratives to vibrant art and cultural showcases.

Much of the content on Cedar & Sage is deeply rooted in my personal journey and the invaluable teachings I have received. My perspective is shaped by the wisdom imparted by Elders in my home community and the profound experiences I have had through participating in ceremonies and embracing my role as a jingle dress dancer. My educational path at Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig, an Indigenous university, further enriched my understanding and commitment to community well-being.

While earning my Honors Bachelor of Social Work degree, I developed a unique personal practice model as my capstone project called Turtle Teachings. This model, inspired by traditional teachings, guides my approach to social work, emphasizing holistic and culturally-informed practices that honor the traditions and values of the community I serve.

Key Elements of Turtle Teachings:

  • Holistic Approach: Emphasizes the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit in fostering community well-being.
  • Cultural Respect: Integrates traditional practices and rituals to honor and uphold indigenous values.
  • Empowerment: Focuses on empowering individuals and communities through strength-based practices.

Cultural Harmony at BOWRS

We are proud to introduce our Cultural Harmony Logo as part of our ongoing commitment to honoring and integrating diverse cultural perspectives within our work. This logo symbolizes our dedication to fostering a respectful and collaborative relationship with indigenous communities and reflects our mission to promote brain health and wellness across all cultural contexts.

Symbolic Connections:

At Brain on Wheels Rehab Society, our mission to enhance brain health is beautifully encapsulated in our Cultural Harmony logo’s rich symbolism. The starfish, with its ability to regenerate and its radial symmetry, embodies renewal, transformation, and the incredible power of healing from life’s challenges. This speaks to our belief in the human capacity for growth and recovery, aligning with our vision of promoting cognitive vitality and emotional well-being.

The waves represent the brainwaves as well as our commitment to bridging the East Coast and West Coast through a shared journey of knowledge and healing. They echo our dedication to fostering connections and understanding across diverse communities.

The infinity symbol signifies the endless possibilities and limitless potential that lie within each of us, mirroring our goal to empower individuals through comprehensive brain health programs.

Sweetgrass, known for its strength and resilience, symbolizes the fortitude within communities. Its braided form represents the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, highlighting our holistic approach to health and wellness. This integration underscores our commitment to nurturing a balanced and healthy community, where each element supports the others in harmony.

Through these symbols, we reaffirm our dedication to creating a supportive environment that fosters growth, healing, and transformation. Together, we strive to empower individuals and communities to achieve optimal brain health and resilience.
